6. Nature of contract: Fee-based.
7. Contract description: The fee-based contract of approximately 6 months
duration is aimed at sampling particular buffalo (Syncerus caffer)
populations in 2 selected SADC countries (Malawi and Mozambique) so that
the intra-typic variants of FMD viruses prevalent in endemic locations can
be established. In addition, to provide training-on-the-job to small
groups of suitably qualified people with specific attention to the
immobilization of buffalo as well as common antelope species in order to
collect appropriate material for FMD surveillance. These people would have
already undergone some training in wildlife sampling for FMD, including
immobilisation.
